Disney Trip 2
FRIDAY, AUGUST 31:
Friday we knew would be packed no matter which park we went to (probably not as much as Saturday, though), and we had read in a guidebook that Magic Kingdom tended to have lower attendees on Friday. So that’s where we opted to go!
Magic Kingdom…I’m gonna ransack that castle!
This is where you go if you want to meet the Disney princesses, hang out with Micky and the gang (who are running around every section of this place in force…like an elite squad of cartoon fun bags), and ride some of the more kid-friendly rides.
There’s a large area in the back of this park that’s under construction while they put together a new section, called FantasyLand, which will be open in 2013. However, there was still plenty to enjoy at this park.
Beth and I started off down Main St, heading towards Cinderella’s Castle – which is kind of the central hub around which all other areas of this park rotate.
We rode a bunch of rides here: Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, It’s a Small World, and a few water rides. We also checked out the Swiss Family Robinson tree house – which was just as disappointing as I remember when I was a kid.
Why was it disappointing, you ask? Well, because I want to experience how the SFR lived in their giant awesome tree house. However, the attraction is treated more like a museum, where you have linear walk ways and no access to any rooms. It would have been nicer if there had been an experience for this, and not just a tree museum. But I digress….
The heat was getting to us at this park, which Friday being the most humid day during our trip. Since I had been tweeting our entire trip up to this point, I started to get bombarded with recommendations to find the Dole Whip station. This gave Beth and I another adventure, and we set out looking for it.
We didn’t have far to go, actually, since the Dole Whip station is right by SFR tree house. We ordered a large Dole Whip float (pineapple ice cream in pineapple juice), and enjoyed a refreshing icy snack.
Dole Whip!
After that, we had pretty much maxed out the Magic Kingdom at this point, and it was only late afternoon. One of Beth’s plans when we scheduled this trip was to do dinner around the world at Epcot, and we had purchased park-hopper passes just for this very thing. The park-hoppers allowed us to come and go from Disney parks throughout our week here as we wanted, so we could hit up Epcot every night if we wanted to.
That said, we decided to head over to Epcot to check out the various countries and see if there was any dinner availability.
The Epcot golf ball!
Epcot actually turned out to be one of our favorite parks, but I’ll get into that more later. Our goal this time was pretty straight forward: try to get a dinner reservation. I’m told the dinner reservations at Epcot can be booked months in advance, but we didn’t do that – we kind of flew by the seat of our pants.
Beth’s #1 choice was Morocco, which had a really cool look and feel to it. Heck, all of the countries did. And we were lucky enough to find availability in Morocco for an early dinner at their premiere restaurant.
We were treated to a feast, and also got to experience some live belly-dancing!
Goat cheese flat bread and tangiers breeze beverage – peach vodka, midori, and pineapple juice
Beth’s dinner: Chicken couscus
My dinner: Steak shish kabab with seasoned yellow rice
After dinner, Beth and I headed out of the park (before the mass of people coming in for the fireworks show), and went back to the hotel to go to bed early.
MORE TO COME….
